Welcome

This is a special monthly edition of the weekly church newsletter for August. The next weekly newsletter will be published at the beginning of September. In the meantime, if there’s any urgent news we will let you know by email.

I know that many of us are going away on holiday or to visit family over these next few weeks and so if we don’t see you, may we take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful and blessed time of rest and recreation.

Fishing Pole Wanted

Do you have a fishing pole or rod gathering dust in the shed or garage that you’d like to find a good home for? Last week I was talking to someone seeking help at the Vicarage door and during our conversation they expressed a love of fishing. They can’t afford a rod, and it would be wonderful to bless them. If you can help please contact me at the Vicarage on 01865 863702, or at vicar@cumnor.org

Tower Roof Repairs

Work to replace the lead on the tower roof continues and is expected to finish soon.

All the historic lead is to be preserved, with the most significant parts mounted in the tower itself for visitors to enjoy, and other sections sold to local people. Watch for more news on this in the next few weeks.

St Andrew’s Rebuilding and Reopening

The new church building for St Andrew’s Dean Court is nearly complete and it’s looking wonderful. It will be a fantastic resource for the church and our community for years to come.

The official opening with Bishop Gavin is at 2pm on Saturday 10th September and then there is a special celebration service for the whole Parish on Sunday 11th September at 10:30am. All very much welcome! There will also be an 8am service at St Michael’s on that day.

Collects for August

August 7th

Almighty Lord and everlasting God,

we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern

both our hearts and bodies

in the ways of your laws and the works of your commandments;

that through your most mighty protection,

both here and ever,

we may be preserved in body and soul;

through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen

August 14th

Gracious Father,

revive your Church in our day,

and make her holy, strong and faithful,

for your glory’s sake

in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

August 21st

Let your merciful ears, O Lord,

be open to the prayers of your humble servants;

and that they may obtain their petitions

make them to ask such things as shall please you;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

August 28th

O God, you declare your almighty power

most chiefly in showing mercy and pity:

mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace,

that we, running the way of your commandments,

may receive your gracious promises,

and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen.
