Giving

“Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

As you may be aware, our Parish finances are at a low ebb, and we expect that the energy price rises will hit the church hard. While we know things will be difficult for many this winter, we really do need your support. If everyone could give just a little extra every week it would make all the difference.

All your donations to the parish support the church’s ministry, and our mission to reach the wider community with the good news of Jesus.

Apart from the weekly collection, you can also give online. Alternatively, giving regularly by Direct Debit via the Parish Giving Scheme is a brilliant option.

For more information or to give online please visit: https://cumnor.org/giving/

Postcards For Inviting Friends To Church

We’ve made some new postcards available at the back of St Michael’s and St Andrew’s for us all to use when inviting friends along to church. Please take a few to give away!

New book by Tim Keller

Over the years, I’ve found that the issue people struggle with more than any other is forgiveness. Whether it’s receiving it ourselves or extending it to others, it’s just something we can find really difficult. So I was delighted this week to learn about a new book by Tim Keller titled “Forgive: Why Should I & How Can I?”

I’ve not read it yet but his books are always well worth reading and so if this is an area where you know you need a bit of help, this will be well worth getting hold of. It’s available from all good bookshops, and there’s currently a special deal at the St Andrews Bookshop website.

Cumnor Pre-School Nearly New Sale

Having a clear out for Christmas or want to buy some Christmas presents?Cumnor Pre-school Nursery are hosting their famous Nearly New Sale in the School Hall at Cumnor C.E. Primary, on Saturday 19th November 5-7pm and Sunday 20th November starting at 10am and ending at Midday.

Buy and sell top quality children’s clothes (from baby to primary school age), toys, books, maternity and nursery equipment – always great bargains on offer!

Together in Love and Faith?

You will have seen the news this week that Bishop Steven has published an essay calling for the Church of England to permit same-sex marriages for clergy and in Church. You can read more about what he had to say on the Church Times website or buy a copy of the full essay here.

Vaughan Roberts, who is Rector of St Ebbes, has written an excellent essay in response which he has made available for free.

The Oxford Diocese Evangelical Fellowship have also issued a statement.

The College of CofE Bishops are leading a process to discern God’s way forward for the Church through these issues. These are difficult discussions and the Bishops have an unenviable task. They need our prayers more than ever. As we follow this debate, let’s treat one another with gentleness and grace, always remembering that this is not firstly a political issue but, above all, a deeply personal and pastoral one.

This Week’s Bible Readings

2 Kings 5:1-15a

Matthew 8:2-3

This Week’s Collect

Almighty Father,
whose will is to restore all things
in your beloved Son, the King of all:
govern the hearts and minds of those in authority,
and bring the families of the nations,
divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin,
to be subject to his just and gentle rule;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen
