On November 7th at 6.30pm. The Taizé team, including harpist Anna Lockett and Cantor Voirrey Carr, is delighted to announce we will be holding our first ‘live’ service at 6.30pm next Sunday, at St Michael’s church. Everyone is welcome to come along to enjoy 45 minutes of simple worship, with beautiful music and song. As this is the week of the feasts of All Souls and All Saints, you may like to come and light a candle in memory of those who have returned to the Lord and entered eternal life.
To keep us all safe, we will encourage social distancing and the wearing of masks.
We look forward to welcoming newcomers and to seeing our former regulars!
You can also join in with the service online below.
Sunday 7th November 2021
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
Song 1 Within our darkest night …(Dans nos obscurités…)
Song 115 The Kingdom of God
Psalm 119: 105- 112
105 Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it,
that I will follow your righteous laws.
107 I have suffered much;
preserve my life, LORD, according to your word.
108 Accept, LORD, the willing praise of my mouth,
and teach me your laws.
109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands
I will not forget your law.
110 The wicked have set a snare for me,
but I have not strayed from your precepts.
111 Your statutes are my heritage forever;
they are the joy of my heart.
112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees
to the very end.
Song 8 Your word, O Lord, is a light.(C’est toi ma lampe, Seigneur…)
Song 26 Our darkness is never darkness…(La ténėbre…)
Bible reading: John 1: 5-8
“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
Song 2 Wait for the Lord
Song 52 Veni Sancte Spiritus (Lighting candles )
Silence
Poem by Malcolm Guite
I see your world in light that shines behind me,
Lit by a sun whose rays I cannot see,
The smallest gleam of light still seems to find me
Or find the child who’s hiding deep inside me.
I see your light reflected in the water,
Or kindled suddenly in someone’s eyes,
It shimmers through the living leaves of summer,
Or spills from silver veins in leaden skies,
It gathers in the candles at our vespers
It concentrates in tiny drops of dew
At times it sings for joy, at times it whispers,
But all the time it calls me back to you.
I follow you upstream through this dark night
My saviour, source, and spring, my life and light.
Prayers
“Jesus, peace of our hearts, in our nights as in our days, in the hours of darkness as in those of bright light, you knock at our doors and await our response.”
Brother Roger of Taizé
The Lord’s Prayer
Song 119 Nothing can ever
Song 37 Jesus remember me
Blessing and Grace
”I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen. Not only because I can see it but because by it I can see everything else.” (CS Lewis)
